Attending camping and outdoor activities helps young refugees make friends, develop understanding of the rural British environment, and deploy some of the rural skills many have learned in their own countries.
SHARED Futures is helping Martin and Michelle of Myriad Adventures to extend the country camping and activity weekends they provide for unaccompanied asylum-seeker children so that many more can benefit. We helped to extend the project and our key worker, Nadine, has been central to planning new activities, supporting Michelle and Martin to run aspects of the programme, and ensuring the engagement and sustained participation of volunteers.

Together with Myriad Adventures we held a training/information day for new volunteers, supported by Refugee Action, the Refugee Council and past and present volunteers. Over 20 people attended the event and all have enlisted to volunteer during July and August. We have also reached our target for recruiting new landowners to run additional camps this summer.
