Chapter 7: Welcoming new arrivals and supporting transitions
Summary

At a secondary school in London, the headteacher welcomes all new arrivals and their families. Along with assessing their needs, they are supported by a buddy and attend a breakfast club. In a secondary school in Bolton, new arrivals are welcomed by their peers. The head of year shows them round the school and makes sure they are placed in appropriate learning groups. In north London, a local transition project works with a primary and a secondary school to support the transition of refugee children into secondary education.
