Chapter 6: Celebrating cultural diversity (14 mins)
Summary
Refugee Week is an annual programme of arts, cultural and educational events that celebrate the contribution of refugees to the UK and encourage a better understanding between communities. At a primary school in London, children enjoy an Arabic calligraphy workshop and a puppet show. At a second London primary school, the curriculum reflects the cultural diversity of the school population. During Refugee Week, a ‘World Day’ celebration involves children, teachers and parents. In Portsmouth, children and parents take part in intercultural arts workshops that raise awareness of the city’s cultural diversity. |
