Chapter 3: Supporting friendship
Summary

Many refugee children and young people feel alone and isolated when they arrive in the UK. At a community project in London, a range of activities help young refugees to develop their confidence and self-esteem and develop friendships. At schools in London and Portsmouth, playground buddy schemes and after-school clubs provide opportunities to relax and make friends. In Cardiff, peer mentors at a drop-in youth group support young refugees and help them settle into the local community.
