Why is SHARED Futures useful?
SHARED Futures showcases practice that supports integration in schools and projects across the UK. By watching sections of the DVD that relate to their work and by engaging in the training workshops that follow, schools, youth groups and other community settings can:
- enhance the welcome extended to refugee children, young people and their families
- improve refugee children's and young people's well-being, progress and integration
- promote approaches that encourage positive relationships between children, young people and families from diverse ethnic, cultural and linguistic backgrounds
- develop the knowledge, skills and confidence of staff.

|
SHARED Futures aims to build on what schools, community and youth work settings are already doing to promote the integration of new arrivals and celebrate the diversity of local communities. It will be particularly useful for practitioners developing initiatives that:
- promote race equality
- build community cohesion
- create a more diverse and culturally inclusive curriculum
- increase the involvement of refugee parents and carers.
"Schools are ideally placed to educate both children and the wider community on issues to do with asylum. SHARED Futures provides schools with examples of successful work that is going on across the country and also gives practical and useful advice."
Gemma Lockyer, Save the Children
